JANESVILLE/BRODHEAD- Wilbur E. Lakin, age 91, of Janesville, formerly
of Brodhead, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004 at his home. He was
born on March 6, 1912 in Kenny, IL, the son of Oscar and Mary (Sheridan)
Lakin. He married Gertrude I. Hagen on Dec. 31, 1935 in Lincoln, IL;
she passed away on June 6, 2003. Wilbur farmed near Decatur, IL, moving
to Avon Township, Brodhead, WI on Jan. 1, 1957, where he and his wife
continued to farm until moving to Janesville in 1988. He was a member of
the United Methodist Church of Brodhead. He is survived by 2 daughters,
Diane (Bill) Hass of Janesville and Betty (Lupe) Garibay of South Beloit,
IL; 2 sons, Bill and Rick Lakin, both of Janesville; a sister, Dorothy
Carlson of Decatur, IL; a brother, Don (Margaret) Lakin of Dubuque,
IA; 9 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by his parents; wife; an infant son, Ray; and a sister, Helen
Folkerts. Funeral serices will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31,
2004 at the UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Brodhead, WI, with Rev. James
Thunstrom officiating. Burial will be in Laenna Cemetery, Chestnut,
IL. Visitation will be at the CHURCH on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time
of services. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Brodhead, is assisting the family.
