Services are under the direction of Riverside Funeral Service, Boise. Wally was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Soda Springs, the 10th of 15 children born to Vance and Anna Lakey. He was reared on a large ranch in Hunters, Wash., and loved animals and the mountains. Wally married Lois Buscher on July 3, 1942, at Coeur d''Alene. They had three children, Barbara, Wallace (Jim) and Jack. Wally and Lois moved to the Boise Valley in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1945. Wally farmed and did construction work until 1955 when he went to work at the Boise VA Hospital. He was the chief of the housekeeping department when he retired in 1978. After retiring Wally and Lois traveled the West in their motor home, fishing, sightseeing, and making new friends wherever they stopped. They lived at Cascade and there they were able to fish, hunt, and snowmobile. Their next moves took them to a home on the Seletiz River outside Lincoln City, Ore., and later to Yuma, AZ. Wally''s cancer brought them back to Boise in the spring of 2000. He will be remembered as a man who extended friendship to everyone he met and was always ready to help anyone in need. He had great love for his family and took particular pleasure in the time spent with his granddaughters. Sharing time with friends, camping and playing cards were also important to him. His parents; 12 siblings; and his son, Jack, preceded Wally in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lois of Boise; his daughter, Barbara (Lou) Kuchenriter of Boise; his son, Wallace 'Jim' of Concord, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Frank (Dot) of Nampa, and Floyd of Portland, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
