Peoria Journal Star; Peoria IL; 2008-12-24 Victor A. Lakis, age 79, of Peoria passed away at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Proctor Hospital. He was born on Feb. 21, 1929, in Chillicothe, Ill., to Alex and Badia Ayoub Lakis. Victor married Bernice Haddad on Nov. 2, 1963, in Toledo, Ohio. She survives. He is survived by his children, Lori (Jim) Douglas of Dunlap, Leslie (Dave) Kibler of East Peoria and Alex Lakis of Peoria; his grandchildren, Cole, Connor, Ryan and Hannah; his sister, Bernice (John) Edwards of Fayetteville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. Victor was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Victor was employed by Sealtest Dairy in Peoria for 24 years, Louis Lakis Ford dealership in Galesburg for 10 years and was a self-employed contractor for several years prior to retirement. He was a member of the Frank N. Nicol Lodge AF & AM in Creve Coeur, Mohammed Shrine and the American-Syrian Lebanese Society. Victor was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria and formerly attended Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria for more than 35 years. Victor was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and a true friend to many. Funeral services for Victor will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Ron Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Parkview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
