Asheville Citizen-Times (online edition) Asheville, NC August 22, 2002 PEARL LAKEY BRYSON CITY - Pearl Louellen Arvey Lakey, 77, of the Brush Creek community, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at her residence. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lillian Edwards Arvey. She was preceded in death by a son, James Ervin Lakey; grandson, James Ervin Lakey; and sisters, Cora Lee Postell and Ella Mae Cook. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Herman Lakey; daughter, Louetta Dills and husband, David, of Franklin; sons, Brannin Lakey of the home, Johnny Lakey and wife, Beth, of Dublin, Ga., Tommy Lakey and wife, Elaine, of Bryson City and Charles Lakey of Raleigh; grandchildren, Brannin Lakey Jr., John Eric Lakey, Melissa Lakey, Ana Lisa Lakey, Davitta Henry, David Lee Dills, Darrell Lakey, Timmy Lakey and Joy Lakey; stepgranddaughter, Jada Vicker; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Floy DeHart, Shirley Douthit and Clara Neil Arvey, all of Bryson City, and Dora Carlton of Thomasville; and brothers, Earl Arvey of Lexington, Wayne Arvey of Bryson City and Joe Arvey of Lexington. The funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Dan Springs Baptist Church, of which she was a member, with the Rev. James Cochran officiating. Burial will be in Tabor Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Crisp Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.
