Springfield Union-News; Springfield MA; 2002-1-3 & 2002-1-4 Michael T. Lak 1918 - 2002 NORTHAMPTON - Michael T. Lak, 83, of Gleason Rd., died Jan. 1 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. Born in Indian Orchard Dec. 6, 1918 to parents, Michael and Agnes (Bielaska) Lak. He grew up in Indian Orchard, graduating from Springfield Trade High School, where he played football. He went on to play semi-pro for the Ludlow Tigers team. He worked as an inspector for Uniroyal for many years, retiring in 1978. He was a Marine MP on the USS Springfield and was in Japan for the Signing of the Treaty of Japan's surrender. Member of the Polish American Vets Club in Wilbraham. Active volunteer at St. John Cantius Church. Longtime woodworker and avid fisherman and traveler. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Kielbowicz). He leaves his daughters, Joyce M. Lak and her husband Anthony A. Fusco of Northampton, and Judith Lak and her husband John W. Borglio of Florence. He leaves his brothers, Stephen Thaddeus and Boleslas; and sister, Amelia Haryasz, all of Springfield; one granddaughter, Devon C. Powers; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers, Albert, Stanley and Henry; and his sister, Mary Kozicki. The funeral will be Saturday from the Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton, followed by a Mass at St. John Cantius Church at 10 a.m. A calling hour will precede the funeral Saturday from 8:30-9:30 at the funeral home.
