From the St. Charles Chronicle, 28 Oct. 1904: St. Charles, IL At Rest. Died, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Emogene Haviland, on October 26, 1904, at 9 o'clock p.m., Mrs. Mary Ann Leake, wife of Ransom Leake, deceased. Mrs. Leake was born in Dutchess county, New York, in 1820. She was the daughter of Wm Gorhamn and one of a family of nine children. She was united in marriage to Ransom Leake in 1848. they came west in 1850 and located on a farm in DuPage county, Illinois, and moved from said farm to St. Charles, where she resided until her death. To her two children were born, Thos. W. Leake and Emogene Haviland. Mrs. Leake united with the Baptist church in aobut he year 1871 and remained in full membership and an ardent Christian believer and worker until death. She had been an invalid for twenty-five years or more and for the past two years has been at times a very great suffereer. When the summons came she was perfectly reconciled to her fate, perfectly happy and ready for the great change. She leaves to mourn her loss two children, Thomas W. Leake and Mrs. Emogene Haviland, and two brothers, Jacob Gorham of St. Charles and Elija Gorham of Gorham, Kansas, besides a large cirlce of acquaintances and friends. Mrs. Leake was a firm believer in the Christian religion, a true wife and a faithful mother. The funeral will be from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Emogene Haviland on East Sixth street, Saturday, October 29, 1904 at 2 o'clock p.m. Interment in Geneva cemetery, east side.
