Asheville Citizen-Times (online edition) Asheville, NC January 22, 2003 Joseph Herman Lakey BRYSON CITY - Joseph Herman Lakey, 93, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at 244 Marr Creek Road. Mr. Lakey was born in Macon County and lived in Swain County most of his life. He was the son of the late John Brannin and Mary Briggs Lakey and husband of Pearl Lakey, who died in 2002. He served in the Army during World War II and was a retired carpenter and farmer. He was preceded in death by two brothers, five sisters, son, Ervin Lakey, and grandson, James Lakey. He is survived by his daughter, Lovetta Dills of Franklin; four sons, Brannin Lakey of Bryson City, Johnny Lakey of Dublin, Ga., Tommy Lakey of Bryson City and Charles Lakey of Raleigh; sister, Ethel Arvey of Bryson City; grandsons, Brannin Lakey Jr., John Eric Lakey, David Lee Dills, Darrell Lakey and Timmy Lakey; granddaughters, Melissa Lakey, Ana Lisa Lakey, Davitta Henry and Joy Lakey; step-granddaughter, Jada Vickers; and 11 great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Crisp Funeral Home. The funeral services will be held at Dan Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. James Cochran officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Tabor Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
