LAKES, John Rutherford(Mike) died suddenly at Lions Gate Hospital on  3
May 2003.  Born in Nelson, BC on 14 Jan1924.  Survived by his loving wife
Zitz Louise and four daughters, Susan, Diane (John), Patricia and Barbara
(Jim), one son John (Clare) 2 step children, Sian and Trevor (Suzie),
numerous lovable grandchildren and Daphne, mother of his children.
He left the University of BC in 1943 to join the Canadian Army, serving in
the South Alberta Regiment, Fourth  Canadian Armoured Div., until he was
wounded on 2 April 1945.  He returned to UBC to be a member of the Law
Class of 1949 and practised law first in Victoria, the Rogers Building
in Vancouver and finally West Vancouver.  His preferred area of practise
was appealing real property tax assessmentss in various parts of BC.
He was an active member of the Royal Canadaian Legion for almost 60 years
and a member of the Vancouver Branch of the War Amputations of Canada.
Mike served serveral terms as alderman on the North Vancouver District
Council.  Funeral Service will be held on Sat 10 May 2003 at 10.00 am at
St. Stephen's Anglican Church, 885 - 22nd Street, West Vancouver, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the War Amputations of Canada, Champs
Program. or the Royal Canadian Legion, West Vancouver Branch #60 are
