LAKIN, Rev. Herman - age 79, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, October 10,
2000, at U.T. Hospital.  Born February 26, 1921 he was a humble servant of
the Lord and a friend to all.  His life was devoted to God and to serving
his church, pastoring several churches in 57 years of ministering.
Currently a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, member of Fountain City
Lodge #757 F&AM.  Preceded in death by parents, Estle and Sallie Lakin,
son, Glen Lakin and wife Carol; daughters, Carolyn Rogers and husband Don,
Barbara Wolfenbarger and husband Wayne, Kathy Lakin; six grandchildren,
Melissa Neibert, Jamie (Chris) Brown, Brian Lakin, Ramona (Dan Jr.) Burle,
Jason Rogers, Lindsay Lakin; three great-grandchildren, Amber Neibert,
Jordan and Emilee Brown; brother and sister in law, Clarence and Betty
Lakin, sisters and brothers in law, Wanda "Susie" and Alfred James, Imogene
"Jean" and Raymond Simmons; sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Lakin, Claudine
"Polly" Lakin, and a host of other relatives and friends.  Funeral service
2 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church on Norris Freeway, Rev. Bill
Smith, Rev. Wayne Bruce Marston officiating.  Interment to follow in the
church cemetery.  Honorary pallbearers:  Minister and Deacons attending the
funeral.  Pallbearers:  Lynn Carter, Bob Holbert, Bryan Lakin, Chris Brown,
Jason Rogers, Wayne Wolfenbarger, Don Rogers, Ancil Hooks, Jr.  The body
will lie in state one hour before the service.  The family will receive
friends 5:30 - 9 p.m. Wednesday at Mynatt's.
