JANESVILLE/BRODHEAD Gertrude I. Lakin, age 85, of 1015 Thorncrest Dr.,
Janesville, formerly of Brodhead, passed away Fri., June 6, 2003, at
her home. She was born in Middletown, IL, on Oct. 1, 1917, daughter
of Peter and Elizabeth Hagen. She married Wilbur E. Lakin on Dec. 31,
1935, in Lincoln, IL. Gertrude and her husband farmed near Decatur, IL,
until they moved to Avon Township, Brodhead, on Jan. 1, 1957. She was a
member of the United Methodist Church of Brodhead, the Avon Homemakers for
25 years, and a charter member of the Sugar River Rose China Painting
Club. They moved to Janesville in 1988. Gertrude is survived by her
husband, Wilbur of Janesville; 4 children: Diane (Bill) Hass, Betty
(Lupe) Garibay of South Beloit, IL, Bill Lakin of Janesville, and
Rick Lakin of Stillman Valley, IL; 3 sisters: Helen Ferrie of Boise,
ID, Florence (Bill) Hayduck of Charleston, IL, and Dorothy Hagen of
Chicago, IL; a brother, Harry Hagen of Lincoln, IL; 9 grandchildren;
and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son,
her parents, 2 sisters, and a brother. Visitation will be held from 5:30
until 7:30 p.m. Mon., June 9, 2003, at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 1105
E. 9th Ave., Brodhead, WI. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday
at the Leanna Cemetery, Chestnut, IL.

Gertrude I. Lakin, 85, formerly of Brodhead, died Friday at her home
in Janesville.  Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m., tonight, at
Newcomer Funeral Home, Brodhead with graveside services  at 11:30 a.m.,
Tuesday , at Laenna Cemetery in Chestnut, Illinois.
