Asheville Citizen-Times (online edition) Asheville, NC October 22, 2001 GERALD MICHAEL LAKINS ASHEVILLE - Gerald Michael Lakins, 83, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, in a local hospital. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Emma Lakins. Mr. Lakins was employed by U.S. Steel as the vice president of sales. He and his wife, Anne, moved from Pittsburgh, Pa., to Asheville in 1981. He was a member of St. Eugene's Catholic Church and Kiwanis. Mr. Lakins volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Memorial Mission Hospital. In his free time he loved to play golf, read, take walks and travel. In addition to his wife of 23 years, Anne, he is survived by his children, Gerald Lakins of the Bay area, Calif., Kathleen Lakins of Dunedin, Fla., Carole L. Ellwood of Clearwater, Fla., Roger Lakins of the Virgin Islands, William Lakins of Chicago; step-children, Ronald Murphy of Palm Harbor, Fla., James Murphy of Apollo Beach, Fla., Stephen Murphy of Hendersonville, Patricia M. Priddy of Ft. Worth, Texas, Paul Murphy of Columbus, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. A mass of resurrection will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in the chapel of Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Ave., with the Rev. Francis T. Cancro officiating.
