Visitation 9 to 11 a.m.; service 11 a.m. both Saturday, Swope Parkway United Christian Church, Kansas City, Mo.; graveside service 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oakwood Cemetery, Parsons. Mrs. Lakes was born Dec. 7, 1914 in Hermanville, Miss., to Sophia E. Jennings and George Henry Watkins. She attended and graduated from Southern Christian Institute in Edwards, Miss., where she met her husband, Rev. George Lakes Sr. She was a teacher and leader in the church and in the community. Preceded in death by husband, George Lakes Sr. in 1998. Survivors: sons and daughter-in-law, George Lakes Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., Roland Lakes of San Pablo, Calif., Ralph and Cynthia Lakes of Oakland, Calif.; daughters and son-in-law, Jean and Otis Chambliss all of Kansas City, Mo., Alice Lakes-Anderson of San Bernardino, Calif.; brothers Edmond Watkins of Oakland, Calif., Robert Watkins of Chicago; sisters, Louvenia King of Kansas City, Mo., Susette Smith of Richmond, Calif.; Agnes Bailey of Tempe, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
