Lakey _________________________________________________________________ Feb. 11, 1928-Sept. 3, 2000 TREMPEALEAU, Wis. -- George I. Lakey, 72, of Trempealeau, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at his home. He was born Feb. 11, 1928, to William and Lizzie (Wilber) Lakey. He retired from Badger Construction in 1993 after 30 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, gardening, woodworking, playing with the family pets and spending quality time with his family. He married Delores (Kanz) Lakey Dec. 5, 1970, in Winona, Minn. Survivors include his wife, Delores; nine children, Pamela (Steve) Beardsley, Mary (Roger) Kulas, Pete (Bernadette) Merchlewitz, Cheryl (Scott) Benson, Peggy (Wayne) Schultz, Dave Merchlewitz, Lisa Welter, Bonnie (Ronald) Muras, Tina Tainter (Jeremy Schott); sister, Alice Jonas; two brothers, Lyle and Gerald Lakey and 26 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at noon today, Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at Zwickey Funeral Home, Galesville, Wis. Burial will be in the Trempealeau Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. today until time of service. Serving as pallbearers will be Pete and Dave Merchlewitz, Steve and Lester Beardsley, Matthew and Andrew Blom, Ronald Muras, David Wieczorek. George will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
