Winfield Daily Courier; Winfield KS; 2001-4-30 Eugene Lakin GRENOLA - The Rev. Eugene Lakin, 67, of Grenola, died April 28, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Grenola United Methodist Church. Watson Funeral Home of Wichita is in charge of arrangements. Memorials have been established with the Grenola Public Library and the Youth Recreation Area. Lakin was born Nov. 17, 1933, in Fall River, to Amy (Worford) and Elvin Lakin. He was raised in the Fall River area and graduated from Fall River High School in 1951. He served four years in the Navy. On Jan. 2, 1952, he married Shirley Hurt. Lakin retired from Boeing in 1992. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Haysville Masonic Lodge 112 and the Scottish Rite. Lakin was well known as a guitarist and was also a carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Lakin, Grenola; two sons, Brent Lakin, Wichita, and Brian Lakin, Tulsa, Okla.; his father, Elvin Lakin, Fall River; four brothers, LeRoy Lakin and Richard Lakin, both of El Dorado, William Lakin, Beaumont, and Ronald Lakin, Augusta; a granddaughter whom he raised, Tori Lakin, Wichita; four other grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
