Salisbury Post (online edition) Salisbury, NC September 22, 2006 Doris Hilton Lakey MOCKSVILLE - Doris Hilton Lakey, of Mocksville, peacefully left this earth Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, with her family gathered at her bedside after several years of declining health to be with her Lord. "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." II Corinthians 5:8. Born May 3, 1938, in Ashe County, Mrs. Lakey was one of 11 children born to Ned and Nancy Dillard. She married James R. Hilton, Sept. 20, 1954, and had six children. After his death in March 1993, she was fortunate to find happiness once more and married Charlie H. Lakey. Mrs. Lakey worked for many years at Baker Furniture and retired from Davie Florist of Mocksville. She was a member of the Conquerors Sunday School class at Trinity Baptist Church, where she attended until her health wouldn't permit. Mrs. Lakey was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Lakey; brothers James Dillard and Robert Dillard; sisters Faye McGinnis and Helen Winebarger; and three beautiful granddaughters, Tara Howell Parker, Mysti Howell Poplin and Megan Elizabeth Howell. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ronnie Hilton of the home, Keith (Crystal) Hilton, Brenda (Rick) Howell, Robert (Grace) Hilton, Bonnie (Chuck) Brown, all of Mocksville, and Donna (John) Morrison of Mount Ulla; stepsons Doug (Angie) Lakey and Chuck (Scarlett) Lakey, all of Mocksville; stepdaughter Marsha (George) Dayton of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; grandchildren Josh (Jennifer) Hilton, Justin (Elizabeth) Hilton, Kelee Myers, Brooke Brown, Kenzie Brown, Russell and Jesse Hilton; step-grandchildren Austin (Emily) Lakey, Clinton Lakey and Brad and Benjy Hunter; great-grandchildren Alyssa and Abby Hilton, Mallie Poplin, Jared Hilton and Jagger Parker; brothers Bruce Dillard of Taylorsville and Clarence Dillard of Mocksville; sisters Georgia Hartzog of Newport News, Va., Betty Bladsoe of West Jefferson, Hazel (Don) Smith of Mocksville and Nellie (Leonard) Vannoy of Winston-Salem; and special family David and Rhonda O'Steen of Alexandria, Va. Service: A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Darrell Cox officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 7-9 tonight at Trinity Baptist Church, U.S. 601 South, Mocksville.
