Kane County Chronicle, 18 August, 1998, pg. A4 Geneva IL Clare M. Lakin Clare M. Lakin, 56, of Springfield, Mo., died Friday, Aug, 7, 1998, at his home. Funeral services were held at the First and Calvary Presbyterian Church yesterday, Aug. 11. He was born Feb. 25, 1942, in Aurora, the son of Perry and Bernice Lakin. Clare grew up on the family farm near Kaneville. He was a 1960 graduate of Kaneland High School and later earned his bachelor's of science degree and master's degree from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. Clare taught sixth grade in Western Springs for several years before moving his family to Springfield, Mo., in 1978. He taught science at Nixa Middle School in Nixa, Mo., until the spring of 1998. He was a member of the First and Calvary Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Gayle (Bachman); two sons, Chad (Jessica) and Rhett, both of Springfield; one grandson, Chad Arthur II; his mother, Bernice Lakin of Kaneville; his brothers, Perry (Blen Meek) of Maple Park and Doug (Susan Nelson) of St. Charles; one sister, Joanne (Lee Meek) of Windsor, Colo.; his wife's parents, Raymond and Gertrude Bachman of Joliet; and one sister-in-law, Raelene (Donald) Barnes of Western Springs. He was preceded in death by his father, Perry C. Lakin, in 1997. Memorials in his name may be made to the Clare Lakin Memorial Fund, c/o Nixa R-II Schools, Nixa. Mo. 65714.
