Redding Record Searchlight; Redding CA; 2001-12-4 Asa Lakey Jr. BURNEY - Graveside services with military honors for Asa "Ace" Lee Lakey Jr., 78, of Burney will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Burney District Cemetery. A reception and remembrance will follow at the Burney Veterans Hall. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts 5689 and 1021, the American Legion Post 441 and others will officiate. Mr. Lakey died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills. Born Oct. 17, 1923, in Burney, he was a lifelong resident of Shasta County. He was a dry kiln operator for Lorenz Lumber Co., a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5689 and the American Legion Post 441 in Burney, a life member and leader of the Burney 4-H and the Future Farmers of America and a cofounder of Christmas Tree Lane in Burney. Survivors include son Bill of Redding; daughters Jeanne Isenegger of Tampa, Fla., and Diana of Red Bluff; brothers Andy of Glenburn, Howard of Anderson and Kenneth of Oxnard; sisters Bessie Townsend of Redding, Marcie Thornhill of Vallejo and Dorca Atkinson of Lapwai, Idaho; and two grandchildren.
