Ware River-News; Ware MA; 2004-7-22 Alexander L. LAK WARE -- Alexander L. Lak, 84, of Dunham Avenue, died July 14 in Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Alice M. Pisarczyk; a daughter Susan Lak, of Ware; two sisters, Julia St. Germain and Nellie Crevier, both of Ware; and many nephews and nieces. Born in Ware, he was a lifelong resident. He graduated from the Winoa School of Photography in Indiana and later owned and operated the Lak Studio on Main Street in Ware for 40 years before retiring. Mr. Lak was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the signal corps attached to the 22nd Tactical Air Command under Gen. George S. Patton. He served for six years in North Africa and Italy during Operation TORCH. Mr. Lak was appointed a radar technician in the signal corps and received five bronze battle stars during the invasion of North Africa and Italy. He was awarded the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. In addition to his professional photography, he was also a finish carpenter and built his own home in Ware. He was member of the Photographers Association of New England and had received several awards for his portraits. He was a member of the Ware VFW Post #2577 and was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. Funeral services were held July 19 from the Cebula Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery.
