(176) Bastardy Cases, 1761 - 1890 In 1816 Othniel Lake was accused of being the father of a child conceived 15 Jan 1816 at the house of Thomas Lake, father of sd. Othniel, and born to Mary Moore (daughter of Jonathan Moore), single woman aged about 16 years of Amwell Township. (Affadavit 750, Recog. 1286 & 2708 and MR 7844) On 5 June 1839 John Lake Sr. of Bethlehem Township was surety for John Lake Jr. who was accused of being the father of the unborn child of Elizabeth Anderson, single woman of sd. Township. On 3 Oct 1839 Elizabeth Anderson declared that she was the natural daughter of Ann Fritts (with whom she lived) and was under the age of 21 years, being between the ages of 19 & 20; that on 23 July 1839 she was delivered of a male child fathered by John Lake Jr., farmer of Bethlehem Township, conceived on the night of 4 Jan 1839 and that the child had "been born in less than 7 months after its conception." (Affadvit 1311, Recog. 2600 & 2604) On 12 Jul 1870 John C. Lake was surety for Jacob S. Lake who was accused of being the father of the unborn child of Anneta Berey/Berry of Warren County, single woman, sd. Child chargeable to Franklin Township. (Appeal 487)
