From: "steven cronau" Date: Fri, 28 Jan 2005 18:36:24 -0600 referring to http://mlake.net/lake/NewJersey/HunterdonCoLakes.txt ... I have a few thoughts on 1.2.1. Garrett Lake. Chambers was the source for his birth as 1777 and his death as 1857. I agree with your having his death as 1849 as he had a will probated in 1849, and he is listed in the 1850 Morris County Mortality Schedule. In this schedule he is listed as age 78 at death...this would make his birth more like 1771, which would be better, for his oldest son Peter was born 1792. I thing Chambers may have mixed up the dates, the 1777 and 1857 dates are better suited for Margaret, his wife. She did in fact die between 1850 and 1860 and in the 1850 census she was listed as 75 years old. Closer to the 1777 date than the 1766 date in "Early Germans" 1.2.1.3. Garrett Lake born about 1802, I think he should be born about 1795-1796. Chambers has his birth order after John but before Thomas, and Thomas was born in 1801. Elizabeth Rarick's birthdate was probably 1796, this would make them both 17 when married 12 Jun 1813. And Garrett and Elizabeth's first daughter, Margaret Malinda was born closer to 1814. Her birth date of 1811 would make Garrett 9 years old! Hezekiah Drake's birth was 1811-1812, by census estimates and the "Descendants of Abraham Drake". 1.2.1.4. Thomas Lake. I have a death date of 1868, I can't find source info for this date. But 1850 Thomas, age 46 Elizabeth age 44; 1860, Thomas age 50, Elizabeth age 50. Then by the 1870 census they are both missing from the Morris Co. census. And no Thomas in the 1880 census either, only a Thomas Lake in Hunterdon Co. and its not the same guy. What is your source for the 1893 deathdate. From: "steven cronau" Date: Sat, 29 Jan 2005 08:36:52 -0600 I think Peter was the first born 1792, or close to that date as 1850 he was 58 years old, and in 1860 he was 69 years old. Peter was Margaret's father, then John, who was John? Johann Peter was Margaret's fathers full name. Then came Garrett, Garretts father. Then Thomas, Garretts grandfather. The boys all come from family names, as was there custom. Maybe Chambers just pulled that 1777 date out of the sky, or maybe a typo in the original work. Who knows now. Johann Peter HANN 1730-1811 1.William 1758 2.John 1760 3.Anna 1760 4.Jacob 1764 5.Peter 1768 6.Henry 1770 7.Catherine 8.Else mar. William Lake 9.Margaret mar. Garrett Lake 10. Elizabeth 11. Mary Margaret seems to fit in the birth order somewhere between 1771-1779, could fit in the 1766 just as easily though.
