Herald-Zeitung; New Braunfels TX; 2002-10-1 KISHPAUGH Barbara F. Kishpaugh, Colonel, U.S. Army (retired) died in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday, Sept. 27, 2002. She served 30 years in the Army Nurse Corps during the World War II, Korean and Viet Nam eras. Her decorations include two Legions of Merit, three Bronze Stars and four Army Commendations medals. Col. Kishpaugh was a 1940 graduate of Central High School, Battle Creek, Mich., a 1944 graduate of Michael Reese Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago, Ill., and held a BSN from the University of Colorado, magna cum laude and a master's degree from Duke University, Durham,NC, sumna cum laude. Barbara was a member and deacon of First Presbyterian Church, member of the planning committee of Army Residence Community and remained on the board of directors until the present time, board member of Sisters Care, of San Antonio,Legal Guardian through Bexar County Probate Courts of persons and estates for serveral incapacitated persons, former member of the board of Morningside Ministries, Treasurer and board member of Army Nurse Corps Association, member of the board of Habitat for Humanity of several houses built by women. In 1974, she was made an honorary Kentucky Colonel by Gov. Wendell Ford for service to the people of Kentucky after a disastrous tornado there. She was given a Liberty Bell Award in 1997 by the San Antonio Young Lawyer Association. Barbara was a very warm and caring person who devoted most of her time to doing things and caring for other people. She will be greatly missed, as she volunteered for many things too numerous to list. She is survived by a sister, Frances Henning, New Braunfels, Texas; sister-in-law Shirley Kishpaugh, Parchment,Mich., and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Richard S. Kishpaugh, Parchment, Mich. Honorary pallbearers; Gen. Henry Viccellio Jr.(USA.retired), Col. George Hall (USA,retired), Col. Walter Mika (USA,retired), Mr. Raul X. Villarreal (attorney), BG George Wallace (USA,retired), Mr. David Sims (friend) and Mr. Lee Morrison (friend). Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 3, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church, 404 North Alamo San Antonio, Texas. Full military honors will be conducted at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. The Rev. George P. Sturch will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morningside Ministries, 700 Babcock Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78201.
